Goals
Hanoi Agricultural University's Pathways to Higher Education program strives to improve historically marginalized students' access to the institution and to succeed in it. The University's Pathways program hopes to develop lessons and best practices it can share with government leaders and education activists in Vietnam to further build higher education access and success for disadvantaged students. To enhance students’ access to higher education, the University’s Pathways to Higher Education program is focused on improving or developing:
- Outreach and recruitment practices
- Financial aid counseling
- Computer science and English tutoring programs
- Faculty and administration diversity and training
Target Population
The Pathways program helps Hanoi Agricultural University enhance outreach to historically neglected minority and indigenous groups like the Tay, Nung, Hmong, Dzao, Muong and Thai. It has also reached out to students from low-income families.
Outcomes
To date, the Pathways program:
- Created tutoring programs to provide rural high schools and ethnic minority boarding schools with academic support
- Improved admissions policies and recruitment practices
- Developed new communication courses and student clubs
- Conducted faculty training on Pathways-specific topics and project management
