Goals
 Guangxi Provincial Educational Bureau partners with Pathways to coordinate programs, facilitate knowledge-sharing, help institutionalize Pathways programs, and enhance governmental policies and procedures to make higher education more accessible for disadvantaged students. To achieve this mission, the Bureau’s Pathways program is focused on improving or developing:

  • Pathways programs within Guangxi Province, inviting students to participate in the program design, implementation and monitoring so that Pathways always serves their best interest and addresses critical issues
  • A counseling center that provides resources for Pathways students to assist in their adjustment to campus life
  • Student groups that provide Pathways students with academic, professional and social support

Target Population
 Low-income students and those living in extreme poverty, in which household incomes amount to less than $30 per capita a month

Outcomes
 The Pathways group at Guangxi Provincial Educational Bureau has:

 

 

 

  • Institutionalized the Pathways program within the government to provide financial and administrative support for current Pathways programs
  • Improved teacher quality through a series of teacher training workshops for Guangxi’s Pathways universities
  • Raised faculty and staff awareness of the financial difficulties affecting low-income students’ performance in and outside the classroom
  • Strengthened Pathways students’ social and teamwork skills through multiple on- and off- campus activities
