Goals
The Guizhou Provincial Educational Bureau partners with Pathways to coordinate and help institutionalize programs, facilitate knowledge-sharing, and enhance governmental policies and procedures to make higher education more accessible for disadvantaged students. To achieve this mission, the Bureau’s Pathways group is focused on improving or developing:
- Academic assistance, such as study skills trainings
- Professional assistance, such as career planning and job-search trainings
- Student support and mentoring groups for Pathways students
Target Population
Low-income and ethnic minority students, such as Miao, Buyi, Dong and Shui
Outcomes
The Pathways group at Guizhou Provincial Educational Bureau has:
- Encouraged and coordinated universities to provide Mandarin and English language courses and tutoring sessions geared towards Pathways students to enhance their competitiveness in the workforce
- Increased the rate of graduation and job placement
- Encouraged tens of thousand of students to actively take part in social activities, such as volunteering in local communities
