Goals
To help marginalized students improve their academic abilities, Luzhou Medical Institute's Pathways program is focused on improving or developing:

  • Support services for marginalized students, such as counseling and mentoring to improve their communication and interpersonal skills
  • Alumni relations focused on supporting current students and increasing student retention

Target Population
Luzhou Medical Institute has reached out to the Hui and Man ethnic groups, which represent 37% of undergraduate and 35% of graduate students at the Institute. Fifty percent (50%) of the Institute's student population is female.

Outcomes
The Pathways program at Luzhou Medical Institute has:

  • Helped 2,000 students obtain their diplomas.
  • Generated tremendous support from the University and its faculty and increased awareness of the unique challenges facing marginalized students.
  • Developed social groups and activities focused on increasing students' self confidence and improving their communications skills. More than 2,500 students have participated in these activities.
