Goals
Shaoyang Institute’s Pathways program strives to improve or develop:
- Students’ technological skills
- Career support to enhance Pathways students’ professional skills
- Psychological mentoring to build students’ confidence levels
Target Population
The Pathways program at the Shaoyang Institute serves low-income students, who comprise 30% of its student body.
Outcomes
To date, the Pathways program at the Shaoyang Institute has:
- Developed a computer training center that arranges technical support groups and instruction for Pathways students. The center allows students to access more than 600 computers per semester and eight multimedia classrooms. Since 2006, the center has conducted 10 training sessions of 12 classes each, which have benefited more than 10,000 students.
- Created additional programs, such as the English Corner, to improve Pathways students overall academic skills.
- Developed the “Flying Dream” Web site, which is an informational resource that disseminates Pathways information to the University.
