Goals
To increase marginalized students professional skill-set and access to economic opportunities, Sichuan Normal University's Pathways program is focused on improving or developing:

  • Support services for marginalized students, such as counseling and mentoring
  • A micro-credit system providing youth with resources and business mentoring so they can start a business on campus and pay for college expenses while learning marketable skills
  • Student support groups to encourage information sharing

Target Population
The Pathways program at Sichuan Normal University has reached out to the Yi and Bai ethnic groups, which constitute 37% of undergraduate students and 35% of graduate students at the university. Fifty percent (50%) of the student population is female.

Outcomes
The Pathways program at Sichuan Normal University has:

  • Provided seed money and business mentoring to low-income and female students and helped 128 youth to start businesses in campus
  • Provided entrepreneurship training to more than 1000 low-income students
