Goals
The Pathways program at Xian University of Technology strives to build students’ professional and social skills. To achieve this mission, the University’s Pathways program offers:
- Support services for Pathways students, including counseling, mentoring and reference materials
- A career training course to improve Pathways students’ professional development skills
- Internship opportunities for Pathways students
Target Population
Female and low-income students in rural areas, which respectively comprise 25% and 45% of the student population.
Outcomes
Through the Pathways program, Xian University of Technology has:
- Developed an innovative academic support system to enhance students’ learning environment, resulting in a 99% Pathways graduation rate.
- Developed a career planning manual and course series for low-income students. The program held 20 training classes, with each class attracting more than 300 students.
- Created 200 intern positions for low-income students in regional companies, communities, and government departments. According to an agreement between the University and companies, at least 10 Pathways students will be assigned to internships and more than half will be hired following graduation.
