Goals

The Pathways to Higher Education program at Jyoti Nivas College improved educational opportunities and performance of marginalized students.  To achieve this mission, the Pathways program at Jyoti Nivas College focused on improving or developing:

  • Students’ leadership qualities by stimulating creative thinking
  • English language skills
  • Career prospects of marginalized students

Target Population

Jyoti Nivas College’s Pathways program targeted students from low-income families and marginalized castes.

Outcomes
Between 2003-2009, the Pathways program:

  • Improved students’ academic performance through special coaching classes
  • Improved students’ communication skills through English language training and technical skills in computers
  • Improved students’ career prospects through career guidance and placement. Coordinating with many IT companies and other organizations, the college successfully placed over 434 students from all disciplines in 2008.
  • Established a Pathways alumni group
